A guided evening walk through the markets and souks of the medina to taste the city's sweet and savoury specialities: charcoal-cooked tagine, tangia, méchoui lamb, kefta with fresh bread, salads, olives, dates and pastries, ending with mint tea on a rooftop.

1. PlanMellah market – souks – medina – rooftop tea

   Marrakech › Mellah › Marrakech medina › Jemaa el-Fna › Marrakech

   Start in the Mellah with an introduction to the market's history: stalls of fruit, meat, poultry and vegetables; watch a pastry being made and see how locals bargain.

   First tastings: sweet pastries and charcoal-cooked tagine, with the guide explaining the secrets of the dish; a refreshing almond drink.

   Into the souks and side streets for food stops travellers usually miss: olives, dates and colourful stalls.

   Deep in the medina: see méchoui (whole lamb) roasted in a pit oven, then a hidden restaurant for tangia and kefta with fresh bread, plus three local salads fragrant with saffron, cumin and herbs.

   Finish on the rooftop of a cosy café with mint tea and stories about Moroccan tea traditions, then transfer back to your hotel.
