The easiest escape from Marrakech's heat: the green Ourika Valley, named after the river that flows down from the High Atlas, with terraced fields and Amazigh villages clinging to the hillsides, ending at Setti Fatma and its series of seven waterfalls.
The walk is short, so it suits most fitness levels, and the valley is especially photogenic in spring.

Good to know
- Pick-up is usually between 7:00 and 8:00 from your hotel or riad; if you stay deep in the medina, the driver meets you at the nearest car-accessible point.
- Bring water, sunscreen, a hat and comfortable shoes; add a warm layer for mountain roads, which are much cooler than Marrakech.

- The path to the upper falls involves some rock scrambling; wear shoes with grip, not sandals.
- After heavy rain the Ourika river can flood quickly; follow the guide's instructions and avoid the riverbed in stormy weather.
